Disclosure: I am the co-founder of RankScore. This is a first-person account of why I built the product, not an independent review.
Most small business owners know they should be doing something about SEO.
They know potential customers are searching for the services they offer. They know appearing in Google can bring in business without having to pay for every click. Some of them even have a blog on their website, although it was probably last updated several years ago.
The problem is not convincing them that SEO matters. The problem is that none of the usual options are particularly appealing.
You can hire an agency and spend thousands of dollars a month. You can subscribe to professional SEO software, open a dashboard filled with graphs and keyword data, and try to work out what you are supposed to do with it. Or you can add “write a blog post” to your weekly task list and continue moving it to next week.
For most business owners, next week never arrives. That is the gap I built RankScore to fill.
Most SEO Software Still Leaves You With the Work
I have operated websites and online businesses for years. Organic search has been an important part of growing many of them. I have also seen how unnecessarily fragmented the SEO process can be.
You might use one tool to research keywords, another to analyze competitors and another to write the content. Then you need to format the article, add links, find an image, upload it to your website and track whether it ranks.
The major SEO platforms are incredibly useful if you are an SEO professional. They contain huge amounts of information and can tell you almost anything you want to know about a website. The issue is that most small business owners do not need more information. They need someone to look at their website and tell them what to do next.
A dentist does not need a spreadsheet containing 30,000 dental keywords. A local contractor does not want to spend an afternoon studying keyword difficulty scores. A founder running a small software company probably does not have time to build content briefs and manually upload articles.
They need a small number of realistic opportunities and a way to act on them.
Building an SEO Tool That Actually Executes

RankScore is built around an AI SEO strategist called Artemis. A user connects their website, and Artemis analyzes its existing content, authority and competitive position. She then looks for keywords that the website has a realistic chance of ranking for.
It is easy for an SEO tool to find keywords with high search volume. It is much harder to identify which of those keywords a particular business can actually compete for.
A brand-new local business is not going to outrank national publications and billion-dollar companies for the most competitive terms in its industry. It may, however, have hundreds of smaller opportunities that established competitors have ignored.
Artemis is designed to find those opportunities, explain why they make sense and turn them into a practical content plan.
From there, a user can ask her to write an article, review it and publish it directly to their website. RankScore combines keyword research, content planning, article creation and publishing inside the same product.
The goal is not to remove the business owner from the process. They still know their customers, their products and their industry better than any software does. The goal is to remove the repetitive work that stops them from publishing anything at all.
Why I Focused on Small Businesses
Large companies can afford dedicated marketing teams. They can hire agencies, employ writers and pay specialists to manage technical SEO, content and links. Small businesses are usually expected to compete for the same space with a fraction of the resources.
The owner may also be handling sales, customer service, invoicing, hiring and the actual delivery of the product or service. Telling that person to spend ten hours learning SEO before they can write a useful article is not particularly helpful.
AI changes what is possible for those businesses. It does not make strategy irrelevant, and it does not mean every automatically generated article deserves to be published. There is already enough weak content on the internet.
What it can do is compress the work. Research that used to take hours can happen in minutes. A blank page can become a structured first draft. Internal links can be identified automatically. Publishing can happen without copying content between several different systems. Used properly, that gives a small business access to capabilities that previously required a team.
This Is Not About Publishing Hundreds of Bad Articles

There is an obvious concern whenever AI and SEO are mentioned together. The internet does not need another flood of generic articles written only to occupy space in search results.
RankScore is not meant to help people publish hundreds of interchangeable posts about subjects they do not understand. That might create pages, but it does not create a useful website or a durable business.
The better use of AI is to help a company turn its real expertise into content more consistently. A plumber knows which problems customers repeatedly call about. A financial adviser knows which questions clients ask before making a decision. A software founder knows where users get confused.
Those insights are valuable. The difficulty is turning them into well-structured, searchable articles while also running the business. AI can help with that translation.
The business still needs to review what is written, correct anything that is wrong and add the details that only someone inside the industry would know. The technology should reduce the effort required to communicate expertise, not manufacture expertise that does not exist.
An Alternative to Hiring an Agency
I do not think RankScore will replace every SEO agency. Businesses with complex websites, large budgets and aggressive growth targets may still need a team of specialists. Technical migrations, digital PR campaigns and highly competitive markets require experience and hands-on work.
But many small businesses are not choosing between RankScore and a large agency. They are choosing between RankScore and doing nothing. They cannot justify a multi-thousand-dollar monthly contract, but they still need a way to build organic traffic. They may have enough knowledge to review an article and decide whether it represents their business, but not enough time to manage the entire SEO process themselves.
That is the customer I had in mind while building it. Someone who knows their business is good, knows more people should be finding it, and is tired of being told that the solution is another complicated dashboard.
Where RankScore Goes From Here
RankScore was recently named the Best SEO Software of Summer 2026 by software discovery platform SoftDesk. Its review highlighted the combination of keyword research, content planning, article generation and direct publishing as the main reason the product stood out.
Awards are nice, but they are not the reason I built the company. I built it because I kept seeing good businesses lose search traffic to competitors that were not necessarily better. They simply published more content, targeted better keywords and showed up in more places.
For years, competing with them required either a large budget or a lot of spare time. Small businesses rarely have either. RankScore is my attempt to give them another option.
